Saison: new taste

Saison is a seasonal Belgian beer, a type of ale traditionally produced in Wallonia, the French-speaking part of Belgium. Currently, thanks to the development of craft brewing, it is brewed everywhere. The French equivalent of the sezon is called bier-de-garde.

Currently, seasonal beer is produced all year round in small farm breweries. There are variants with different alcohol content (homemade beer with an alcohol content of about 5%, typical export beer with 6.5% and stronger versions with an alcohol content of 8% or more). With an increase in the alcohol content, the sweetness decreases, the bitterness and acidity of beer increases. Both Pilsner malt and Slovenian, Viennese and/or Munich malt are used to give color. Additives such as sugar and honey can be used, as well as herbs and other ingredients to add flavor and fullness. Hop bitterness and taste are more noticeable than other types of Belgian beer. Sometimes seasonal beer is hopped dry; usually noble hop varieties are used, for example Styrian or East Kent Goldings.
Usually bright orange in color, but it can be amber or golden. Beer has weak or good transparency, slightly cloudy when unfiltered, strongly carbonated, with a dense, stable white foam. It has a fruity, hop aroma and a spicy, tart and fruity taste with citrus notes of orange or lemon.

Our Saison is brewed in the style of Belgian farm ales. Initially, this ale was brewed by Walloon farmers to drink while working in the field. It was intended for recuperation, so it was spicy and moderately strong. For the production of beer, grains grown right there in the fields were used.

Saison is made from wheat-barley malts and Slovenian Bobek hops. Its recipe includes spicy Guinea pepper and fragrant coriander grains, as well as refreshing orange peel. The taste of beer with IBU 40 is revealed by three waves of pleasant bitterness — hop, orange and pepper. Its strength is harmoniously woven into the taste, culminating in the characteristic tones of Belgian yeast cultures. Bobek hops give the drink a floral-citrus aroma, complemented by spicy-orange notes.

We recommend to try it with seafood, pad thai, aged aromatic cheeses.
